Daniel Mercer

Dan Mercer is in his twentieth year in public education where he has served in multiple roles in the classroom and leadership. His career started teaching fifth grade in a rural school district in Michigan where he spent 7 years working with students from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds while also pursuing his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. The next six years of his career saw him taking on the role of Middle School Assistant Principal in the same district before transitioning to lead a middle school in a more urban district, his hometown, as the building’s principal. Following six years in middle school administration, Dan led the high school of the same district as high school principal. It is during these 8 years as a building leader that Dan began to hone his skills in the district’s Resilient Schools Project where educators use a trauma informed lens to work towards establishing resilience in their students to build towards academic and social success. Currently, Dan is in his first year as the Executive Director of School Improvement in the same district where he leads the district in work surrounding MTSS, PBIS, Curriculum and Multilingual Learners.
